Biography & Career
Marcello is a VC investment professional and former Investment Manager at LVenture Group (now Zest Investments), with extensive experience in assessing business opportunities, managing investment processes, and executing transactions at both national and international levels. Throughout his career, he has been involved in more than 2,500 startup screenings, over 100 investment and divestment operations, and several successful exits.
Marcello combines financial expertise — holding a BA in Economics & Banking from LUMSA University of Rome — with an entrepreneurial mindset shaped by his family business background and a strong passion for technology and innovation developed through years of close collaboration with digital startups.
He regularly participates in startup ecosystem initiatives as a mentor and juror, including Startup Weekend (powered by Google for Entrepreneurs) and corporate hackathons. He has also served as a lecturer and industry expert at several universities and international institutions, including LUISS, LUMSA, Roma Tre University, John Cabot University, IES, and the European Commission.
In 2021, Marcello joined BlackSheep Ventures as Junior Partner, where he is responsible for managing the Fund's screening and investment processes. In less than 40 months since the Fund's inception, he has played a key role in executing 15 investments with an average ticket of €2M, contributing to the deployment of nearly 85% of the Fund's AUM and supporting the completion of 3 successful exits.
In his daily role, Marcello focuses on deal sourcing and evaluation, portfolio monitoring, board support, and fund reporting, while continuously analysing new investment opportunities.
